DIE VERSUCHUNG DES HEILIGEN ANTONIUS durch den Teufel hat Künstler seit dem Mittelalter beschäftigt: Matthias Grünewald, Hieronymus Bosch, Max Ernst, Salvador Dalí und Gustave Flaubert, der 25 Jahre lang an seinem gleichnamigen Roman schreibt. Inspiriert von Flauberts philosophisch-literarischer Interpretation des Stoffes, verfolgt Dimitris Lolis in seiner Abschlussarbeit am Regie-Institut der Universität von Thessaloniki eine eigene Version der 'Versuchung'. Ausgehend vom modernen Leben in der Großstadt und dem Gegensatzpaar „Einsamkeit“ und „Begegnung“ wird das Konzept der Versuchung für Lolis zum Synonym für die Paradoxien zwischenmenschlicher Kommunikation. In sieben Kapiteln und sechs Fragen entwirft er einen wort- und bildpoetischen Parcours um ein Rätsel herum: Sucht jeder Heilige die Wüste? Besteht die Versuchung des Heiligen im Rückzug oder in der Ablenkung von der Einsamkeit? Ist die Kommunikation, die Berührung des Anderen die größte Sehnsucht oder der größte Albtraum? Oder liegt die Versuchung vielleicht darin, dass die Welt gar nicht so sein kann, wie der Mensch sie gestaltet?
Lolis’ Inszenierung wurde im Lockdown zu einer szenischen Anordnung für Kamera und Schnitt-Technik. Im anspielungsreichen Universum des Szenografen Captain Stavros performen Lolis und Schauspieler Dimitris Kapetanios einen philosophischen Diskurs, inszenieren, dekonstruieren, bauen auf und ab und sprechen zu einem Gegenüber, das nicht mehr im Raum ist: in sehnsüchtiger Erwartung einer Begegnung.
THE TEMPTATION OF SAINT ANTHONY by the devil has preoccupied artists since the Middle Ages: Matthias Grünewald, Hieronymus Bosch, Max Ernst, Salvador Dalí and Gustave Flaubert, who took 25 years to write his novel of the same name. Inspired by Flaubert’s philosophical and literary interpretation of the material, Dimitris Lolis pursued his own version of the ‘temptation’ in his final project for the directing department at the University of Thessaloniki. Based on modern life in a big city and the pair of opposites “loneliness” and “encounters”, for Lolis the concept of temptation becomes a synonym for the paradoxes of interpersonal communication. In seven chapters and six questions, he creates a winding path around a riddle that is poetic both in terms of words and images: Does every saint seek the desert? Does the temptation of the saint consist of the withdrawal from or the distraction of loneliness? Is communication, touching the other our biggest desire or biggest nightmare? Or does the temptation lie in the fact that the world can never be the way humans design it?
During the lockdown, Lolis’ production became a theatrical arrangement for the camera and editing techniques. In Captain Stavros’s reference-filled scenographic universe, Lolis and actor Dimitris Kapetanios perform a philosophical discourse, stage, deconstruct, build up and down, and speak to another person who is no longer in the room: in yearning expectation of a physical meeting.

Auf einem imaginären Berggipfel in den Schweizer Alpen können sich die Besucher*innen hier mit einem persönlichen Avatar frei durch eine Installation der in kleinere Clips unterteilten Videoperformance bewegen. So wird es eine individuelle Wahl sein, ob Sie auf einsamer Fahrt oder mit anderen durch den Raum gehen. Die Ausstellung wird auf der Plattform Mozilla Hubs und auf Englisch eingerichtet. Die Galerie nur für eine begrenzte Anzahl von Besucher*innen zurzeit zugänglich. Sollte der Zugang nicht funktionieren, können Sie es nach wenigen Minuten erneut versuchen. An exhibition version of LA TENTATION DE SAINT ANTOINE, MAIS JE M’APPELLE DIMITRIS is being prepared in the digital department of the Berg Van Kunst Gallery. On an imaginary mountain top in the Swiss Alps, visitors can use a personal avatar to move freely around an installation of the video performance divided into shorter clips. The choice is up to you whether you take the journey through the space alone or with others. The exhibition will take place on Mozilla Hubs and in English.
