Two people who like each other. Two people who want nothing more than to get closer to each other. Two people, who, every time they say “you”, somehow end up back at the “I”. Their feelings are real. Their feelings are in every fibre of their yearning bodies. But insecurity lurks in the stream of their clever thoughts. They can’t make it from the “I” to the “you”. They’re stuck, as if they had been robbed. Anna Franziska Jäger and Nathan Ooms start from the observation that our everyday life is increasingly permeated by so-called “ambient” experiences. Internet series, pop music, but also the content of social media feeds create an environment of superficial lifestyles. The permanent production of analogue as well as virtual environments (ambience) creates a permanent white noise in which the self, absently present and pseudo-active, drifts through time and space. To demonstrate what happens when the pressure increases and the individual desperately tries to burst the “ambient” bubble, Ooms and Jäger need neither videos nor laptops on stage, they only need themselves. On stage the two furious performers are completely in their element and disturbingly funny.

Anna Franziska Jäger and Nathan Ooms (both *1996) both have a master’s degree in acting from the School of the Arts (KASK) in Gent. Ooms also completed a master’s in choreography at P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. In 2019, Jäger played a. o. the main role in Eva Cool’s feature film CLEO. Both work as performers with different Belgian artists. AMBIENT THEATRE FURY is their third collaborative work and their first after graduating, created during a residence at Campo, a producing theatre in Gent.
